Rihanna suffered a devastating family loss in December 2017. This occurred in her home country of Barbados. Tavon Alleyne, Rih’s cousin, was shot and killed.

Alleyne was walking in the St Michael’s area at the time of his death. The shooting was said to have taken place at 7 p.m. local time. He was also only 21 at the time. Alleyne was taken to a local hospital for treatment, where he died from his injuries. His assailant was never apprehended.

Alleyne’s life was also taken from him just one day after he and Rihanna famous Christmas with their families. Rih was in her hometown, where they had all hoped to use a special holiday together. Horrifically, tragedy hit less than 24 hours after that family gathering.

“RIP cousin…” said Rihanna in the aftermath of the shooting. Can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms! never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man! #endgunviolence.”
