Golden State Warriors 2009-2010 Predictions
The Golden State Warriors peaked when they defeated the 67 win Dallas Mavericks in the 07′ playoffs – since them they haven’t done much. Their defense the last two season has been one of the worst in the league – if not the worst. They can score when they want but don’t play any defense and let teams back in games. If one thing needs to change is their defensive mentality, otherwise the Warriors will be the Phoenix Suns of old – a very exciting team but can’t make basic stops when the game is on the line.
The Warriors drafted and highly talented Stephen Curry – Curry made himself as the best scorer in college basketball. While he might not score 30 points per game on the specialized he should be a meaningful player on the team ultimately. F Cory Maggette is one of the better players on the team and should have another substantial season. Being this is his 10th season he is the veteran that needs to keep the team focused all season long.
The Warriors play in the highly talents and strong Western Conference – in the West making the playoffs as the 8th seed will be a difficult task. If the warriors hope to play in late spring then will need to enhance on defense – no team that was last in scoring defense ever made the playoffs. The Warriors might not be what the San Antonio Spurs once were defensively – but in a league with gifted athletes the Warriors can enhance like the Denver Nuggets did last year.
Coach Don Nelson likes the “run & gun” kind offense but he already knows that to win games in the league they must attempt to play defense now and again. Nelson is second all time in career wins and within the next associate seasons he should break the mark set by Lenny Wilkins.
