BMC to roll out booster shots for eligible population of Mumbai
As part of its precautionary measure to fight rising situations of Covid19, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will start rolling out the booster doses, covering around 1.3 million eligible citizens in phases from January onwards. These include people aged 60 and above, those with comorbidities, frontline and health care workers.
However, in January, only 50,000 senior citizens will be eligible for the third measure, and of these, only those having comorbidities can take them.
According to a latest research, the two standard doses of Covid vaccines are not effective on the Omicron variant and that’s why government has led down booster shots for 60 and above.
Covaxin received approval for emergency use in children 12 – 18 years of age, following which, the government rolled out vaccination for kids from January 3, 2022, but for 15-18 age group. The Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company further said that Covaxin has proven to be safe, well-tolerated, and immunogenic in paediatric subjects in phase II/III study.
